Plotting and mapping
Asle and I both liked the idea of the rope to make a plotting map. We iterate on different ideas, a lot would just create a spider web of jarn. we thought a star shape would make it still readable. After a morning of discussion we came up with the idea to make a plotting map about why some people don't participate in class (discussions). This would give us data we could use to help the others.
After some thinking we decided to do different colour jarn for each person, so you can decipher later what one person did. We tested this on the board used for laser cutting paper. We should have tried it with more colours back then (picture of test below). Because in the end it is hard to decipher the content of the plotting map.

We thought about different hurdles not participating would be for us. and also one where people can write their own reason down. We ended up with 8 reasons (some were too simulor). We thought about making the plotting party on wood, after some testing we realy liked the way it look on paper.
<-- Engraved paper can go too deep.
This semi cut paper would be nice for a lamp shade.

Multiple thing we had to lasercut en engrave again. We did test our settings but found out that the laser is more powerful in the left upper corner. This is because the laser is fixed in on place and moved through mirrors in the arm of the laser cutter. Especially with a big surface like our A1 paper, we wanted to engrave the text. text in the left corner was cut all the way through and text in the right bottom was not visible. We ended up with lower powersettings and engraving the bottom extra.
TIP: you can eraser some burn-marks on paper with a eraser.
When the plotting party started we noticed some problems people encountered. We didn't give a scale with some questions, if 1 or 10 is the high number. We should have put (never, sometimes, often) on more places as a scale.
The idea was that people only answered a few questions which prevents them the most from participating, a lot of people did all the questions. We found out that people don't read the manual.
This 'mistakes' made the data hard to read and not reliable.
We should have made the model smaller and less ambitious. with less questions it would have been more easy for the people and for us to read afterwards.
End Results:
- Not everyone understands the class fully because of language
- A few students are shy and that prevents them from participating
- A lot of people are easily distracted
- Some students find they lack professional knowledge that prevents them from participating
- Some people are more used to speak in front of other people than others
