Zines
Zines are a way to explore a subject. To find out what it really means even if you are uncertain about a subject. It a way to combine tekst and visuals to help others explore the subject. zines are used to critic something, to share your opinion or to explore.
We watched a video about artists and craftsmen talking about what the word making ment for them. We talked about the subjects and what we agreed on or not. Later we tried zines for the first time.

My subject was tools. I wanted to show that if the tools you use are not made by you, then you may be limiting yourself within the boundaries of the tool. If the tools are not 100% made by you is the outcome then still your idea?
Exploring this subject I only came up with more questions than answers.
handmade visuals on the left side and digital on the right side, without a clear line in between.

In the end I could have improved on the tekst it is not easly readable. I used semi transparant paper to write on but the glue made it bubbles and dark spots.

Week 2/3
Making
We read 3 texts: a manifest, Co-art and

My subject was questioning. I had no idea of what I wanted to show. My starting point was browsing different magazines. then I came across different photo's who question the reality.

Also this text is on the right side of the page not easily readable. This is on purpose, hopefully the reader will think of questions of their own.
Week 3/4
This zine is one I would like to forget. The two side do not compliment each other. It has something to do with the composition. also the image's don't combine to getter to make a combined collage.

Week 7
An example of how to explain an algorithm is a recipe because it tells you what you need to do step by step. It takes inputs (ingredients) and produces an output (the completed dish). Algorithms need to have their steps in the right order. In a recipe you can also not screw around with the order of ingredients, unless you want a complete different outcome. An algorithm is use for online retailing, dating websites, insurance risks, trading, bank approvals, job matching, your google searches, and many more applications. Do we want to let so many decisions be made by a calculation? Is the ‘ingredients’ list the algorithm is base on not bias? How can we know they are fair, if a lot of the algorithms are a better kept secret then the Coca-Cola recipe?
Algorithm
I forgot that this week the zine had to be next to each other. I made it so it is underneath each other. I made the collage and printed this then put the print and some coffee beans under the scanner to create a 3D effect.
Zinebook
Rick S and I wanted to lasercut the whole book. With a flexible wood cover. This was not easily reproducible Loes said, and a zine had to be reproducible. We were finished with the book and already printed it Rick V still also had to contribute. This was a bit annoying. We ended up with him designing the back of the booklet. The booklet is printed and hand stitched to bind it all.
Looking back the white part is to white in contrast to the rest of the zine. This makes it stand out it more than I want.
This week the designers of the book had a clear idea. This helped to bring all the zines togetter more.
