Minor course:
Challenges in today’s society are often complex, and no one (wo)man job. Making change that is an actual improvement is not a straightforward process. This is why in the course Makers Lab: Designing Difference, we will practice falling in love with problems (not solutions) and practice including "difference" and a variety of perspectives and experiences every step of the way. In this interdisciplinary course, students research societal issues through reflective and critical experimentation with various techniques, tools and materials. We address the norms and values that inform existing product designs, branding strategies and technologies: who benefits from a given design? Who doesn't? Could it be different? By asking these questions we aim to open a design space with room for difference and alternatives, on a conceptual level as well as product level.
